Transvaginal mesh devices are used to treat disorders including pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence. Though none of these devices has been officially recalled, several manufacturers have removed these products from the market because they have caused serious medical complications such as infections and severe bleeding, and because some mesh devices have punctured the vaginal wall and damaged adjacent organs.
